This section of the litepaper provides an introduction to the gameplay features and mechanics of the Project Forest app. It also highlights the reward structure of the application.
Project Forest introduces a unique way for users in Web3 to collaboratively offset blockchain carbon consumption and improve the environment through its incentivized sustainability model and Grow-to-Earn app. Powered by the Project Forest ecosystem, players contribute to real-world reforestation activities by purchasing, nurturing and growing Tree NFTs through an interactive mobile app.
How to Play
Project Forest’s main objective is to plant and nurture trees of different classes and distinct attributes by watering and fertilizing them and collecting the O2 (oxygen) released. Since every tree is an NFT graded by several qualities and classes, the O2 production varies from tree to tree.
Users enter the Project Forest ecosystem by minting or redeeming a Tree NFT. Once a Tree NFT is acquired, users can plant it within the Project Forest application and begin the Grow2Earn process.
As players enter the Project Forest application, they are in a big garden with many soil pits. The first five soil pits exclusively provided by Project Forest to its players for free. Trees in Project Forest can ONLY be planted in soil pits.
Players then choose from a variety of tree seeds to plant, and when a seed gets sown in a soil pit, it needs to be watered and fertilized for growth enhancement.
Once a Tree NFT sprouts after planting it as a seed, it starts releasing O2 – the utility token of the project's ecosystem. This O2 can be collected by the owner of the Tree NFT for various purposes within the Project Forest ecosystem. O2 can be used to buy more resources to enhance the growth of already-planted trees or saved up to unlock more soil pits to plant more trees.
Tree NFTs release a certain amount of O2 each day, which is relative to the particular level of the tree. Tree NFTs also have age limits which differ based on the tree’s species.
Alongside age limits, Tree NFTs have distinct growth phases – growth, maturity, and senile – which are a few crucial factors that determine the O2 yield of a particular tree. Fertilizers and other nutrients can be purchased using O2 tokens at the store to boost tree growth and age limits. However, when a tree reaches its full age, O2 yield stops.
Tree NFTs differ significantly in their attributes. Properties such as speed of growth, length of various phases, yields and nutrient requirements depend on the species, rarity and environments of trees.
Getting Started
Players can get Genesis Tree NFTs through airdrops or by purchasing blind boxes. Project Forest's closed beta concluded on October 31, 2022. Participants of the closed beta will each receive an exclusive Tree NFT for their participation in the beta and contributions to the ecosystem. Furthermore, players had multiple ways of receiving up to five NFTs regularly through different community-related tasks.
Once the NFT marketplace launches, users can make secondary purchases of Tree NFTs from other players.
