Trees in Project Forest generate O2 regularly over the span of 24 hours, and players must manually collect O2 produced every day. If a player fails to collect the produced O2 within 24 hours, it expires, and a new cycle of O2 generation begins.
The initial capacity of O2 in Project Forest is zero, and it increases with every tree planted, depending on the level of the trees. Players can increase the O2 capacity by planting more trees and upgrading them constantly.
However, even after all the upgrades and planting of all 30 trees, there is a certain threshold of O2 that can be accumulated and collected. Once the total O2 threshold is reached, the exceeding O2 produced is lost and cannot be retrieved, and players cannot collect any further O2.
In order to maximize O2 earnings and earn efficiently, players need to utilize in-game resources like Water and Small Fertilizers effectively and plan their tree-level upgrades accordingly. O2 is required to purchase resources from the Consumable Shop, and upgrading trees requires O2 as well. Both these actions increase the O2 production of a tree.
Furthermore, players can increase their O2 earnings by excavating trees that have entered the 'Senile' phase, as O2 production starts decreasing at this point, and replace them with newer trees in the 'Mature' phase. Remember, excavating trees costs 1,000 O2, so that's another aspect to keep in mind.
